Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl β€” who received the toy collection when he left for college β€” receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
